I am 34 years old and a student at Northern Illinois University, graduating in May. I am a single parent raising two boys ages 12 and 16 (thank you for all your prayers--I need them). I want to lose weight before I start my teaching career and be more active for my boys. My partner is my mother who is 58 and a prepress technician at Northern Illinois University. Two years ago she had double knee replacement and needs to lose weight to make it possible for her to become more active.

In 300 words or less. . .

Sheila and my reason for entering this contest is basically the same: “Lose weight and become healthy”. We know from past experiences that losing weight is not easy. We have both tried numerous times to do something about our weight, each time giving up before we come close to our goal. We are both hoping that this time will be different since we have others to share our journey with. The knowledge of what to do is there. Now with the support of each other, family and friends, and those we have met through the Biggest Loser Challenge, we hope to accomplish our goals. We plan on working out together as well as working out individually. This is where we need the help. Neither of us are very informed about what to do for workouts, and I have to be careful not to do anything to damage my “new knees”. I had double knee replacement two years ago. What little equipment I have is in the garage. On days it is too cold we will use some of the exercises that the trainers use on the show that doesn’t require equipment. We understand that there are a lot of people that deserve to win. The biggest reason that we hope to be the winners is because we know that it would give us a great boost to continue what we have started. A personal trainer is what we need to really motivate us. The knowledge of what to do and how to do it would be something that would stay with us for the rest of our lives. We would take full advantage of a personal trainer, no matter how hard he or she pushes us, WE WOULD DO IT.

Sorry for not being on her

I'm sorry that we have not been on here much. We've had several things happening in our lives in the last month. The shooting at NIU was one, even though we didn't know any of the victim it did have an affect on both of us. Sheila is a Education major and two of the victims were in that  major. I work for the department that does all of the printing for the university and it was rather hectic for a few weeks have to print a lot of documents and programs etc, that directly involved the aftermath of the shooting, but also reprinted all the posters, invites class schedules etc. that were changed due to what happened. My husband also had surgery and is still recovering from that. Those are things that I could have dealt with but one thing I couldn't deal with was finding time to exercise and also be fully involved in this site. I was finding that I was spending so much time on this site that I told time away from taking care of myself and my family. So I guess we just have to face it that neither of use will be on bigest loser or win the trip and money. It was really fun what we were doing but it''s time to say Goodbye and wish everyone out there good luck. Oh, by the way I am still going to the gym and as soon as my husband is fully recovered from surgery he is going to join and go with me. So something really good did come out of this.

I am sure all of you have heard about the shooting at NIU yesturday. My mom works there, and I am finishing my Elementary Education degree there this semester. Niether one of us knew any of the victims. Our prayers go out to all of the families and friends of the victims.

Betty_Good News

I just found out that I can go to the gym in the mornings. They open at 5 a.m. I'm only going to get to the gym two times this week total, but next week, beginning on Monday I'm going to try and go before work. I'll have to take stuff to shower and change but I'm hoping that it will get my heart rate working earlier and help me to burn more calories through the day. My other daughter Sherri and I have a biggest loser contest going between the two of us and our final weigh in is on February 25th so I'm going to have to really push to win. The bad weather kept me from the gym this week but I'm really going to try hard to make it there a lot next week.

Sheila-- Going okay

Things are going okay for me right now. It is hard trying to go to school, be at all the wrestling meets, cook meals, and workout. Sometimes I can't keep up with everything. I was sick yesturday, and the weather in northern Illinois is horrible, so I havn't been to the gym because it is a 20minute drive from my house. I am hoping I will be back working out next week.

Betty_It's going great

Joining the gym has helped me and Sheila out a lot. I lost 5 lbs this week. I can't remember when I did that before. I've been sick for two days this week and off on Friday so I've been a bit under the weather. But starting tomorrow I'll be right back on track. Everyone keep up the good work.
